First Step Children’s Center
The First Step Children’s Center is our community's only crisis nursery, pre-school & daycare center. This licensed childcare center is committed to providing a warm & nurturing environment for children ages 0 through 12.
- Provides no-cost emergency and respite childcare to families at risk as a preventative measure to avoid child abuse.
- Responds to any parent or caregiver that contacts the Center directly or through CAPC’s 24-hour child abuse hotline, but only provides services to families in crisis whose needs cannot be met through other childcare resources in the community.
- Provides short-term no-cost childcare to children whose parents are voluntary participants or mandated into drug rehab, domestic violence counseling, mental health services, hospitalization, or are seeking employment, skills training or a permanent home and have no other means of caring for their children.
- Serves CPS-referred parents, court mandated parents and parents who seek our services voluntarily.
- Provides a safe, friendly, nurturing environment where children benefit from an age-appropriate educational curriculum, mental health evaluations, nutritious meals and snacks and lots of one-on-one attention from trained childcare providers that are credentialed by the State of California as teachers.
