About CAPC
The Child Abuse Prevention
Council (CAPC) was established in 1978 following a grand jury investigation and the public's concern into the brutal beating death of a three year old child named Latanya Smith, by her mother's boyfriend.
We are an agency dedicated to preventing child abuse, ensuring safety, education and treatment for abused/neglected children and abusive and at-risk parents.
In the more than twenty years since its formation, CAPC has collaborated with other local agencies and organizations to meet the needs of children and families who are at-risk of abuse and neglect.
Because
of these partnerships, lives has been changed. A
neglectful parent has learned how to be nurturing. An abused child
has learned that he/she was born to be loved. A newborn is pampered
by a mother who has learned how care for her baby. And a father
has learned how to manage his anger.
Support from the community has made all these miracles possible. For countless children and families,
we have been able to provide the help they need to find their way
to a better, brighter future.
