PARENT CAFÉ - PARENT/CAREGIVER SUPPORT

Parent Cafés are free bilingual parent support groups hosted weekly throughout SJC in schools, parks, community centers, libraries, shelters, and churches. The purpose of the program is to strengthen communities by bringing parents/caregivers together to talk about the things that are important concerning their children as well as themselves and to promote positive mental health and well-being. Parents/Caregivers who complete the program receive a certificate of recognition. Parent Cafes provide opportunities to build up parent/caregiver leaders in the community to continue holding spaces to connect with fellow parents/caregivers. The topics addressed in the program pertain to stress management, how to increase your social support system, how to obtain community resources, and tools to strengthen family bonds. Discussions are offered using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach with a curriculum based on the Strengthening Families Framework: The Six Protective Factors:

Parental Resilience

Social connections

Concrete Supports of Parents

Knowledge of Parenting & Child Development

Nurturing & Attachment

Social & Emotional Competence of Children

All the information has been very helpful and I’ve put it to good use. I relax more at home and I approach situations in a different manner thanks to the sessions.”
