The CAPC has many volunteer opportunities for you to become involved.
Court Appointed Special Advocates(or CASA) is always taking volunteer applications. CASA volunteers become sworn officers of the Court, advocating for an assigned child in the Dependency Court (foster care) system. CASA volunteers receive intense special training and become the eyes and ears of the Court, investigating circumstances around the child and the preferences of the child, to allow the Court to make a placement decision in the best interest of the child. Time commitment: 18 months, approximately 10 hours per month. Adopt-A-Family is an end-of-year holiday program that provides gifts, clothing and food to less fortunate families that use our services throughout the year. Families, businesses and civic organizations adopt client families, the adopters fill the families needs (using a private needs survey) and Mr. & Mrs. Claus and friends make the deliveries in December. Volunteers are needed to shop, wrap gifts, stage and make the deliveries, and, of course, to adopt. Adopt-A-Family will truly contribute meaning to your holiday! Time commitment: a little or a lot.
Special events are a celebration of our mission. They are both labor-intensive and incredible fun! CAPC holds many special events every year, both to raise needed funds for programs and to increase public awareness of child abuse issues. Events include the Gala & Auction, Fashion Show and many more. Volunteer opportunities include everything from serving beverages to fashion modeling. Time commitment: a little or a lot. Administrative support is always needed at CAPC, since we run a program considered one of the lowest in administrative overhead. Your telephone, filing, and general office skills are in need nearly every day. We could also use your information technology assistance. This is a great opportunity for those dedicated to children’s service but unable to work directly in a children’s environment. Time commitment: flexible.
Friends of CAPC, the membership body of the Council, is made up of community members that have a special commitment to end child abuse. Our members serve in many programs that benefit children and families, and they do it on their own schedules, committing only as many hours as they like. Take a look at the volunteer opportunities below, and then call the CAPC office to sign up for these exciting choices. Internships - Students at both 2-year and 4-year colleges volunteer their times while completing internships as a requirement for their degree or certificate. We have a student supervisor on the staff that meets the requirements of all local college and university intern programs. Time commitment: duration prescribed by school.
